VCU Together Update for students - April 23

Travel advisory, vaccines and more

Our priorities are the health, safety and wellness — both physical and emotional — of every member of the VCU community. VCU continues to monitor, assess and address situations as they arise. This weekly update will be a resource to help keep you informed as details become available. All updates are available at Receive notifications by downloading VCU Mobile from your iOS or Android app store.

Significant changes to U.S. Department of State travel advisory

The U.S. Department of State announced it will raise a significant number of countries to Level 4: Do Not Travel. The percentage of countries worldwide with this designation will likely increase from 16 percent to up to 80 percent. The State Department announced the updates will be made to better reflect the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) science-based Travel Health Notices that outline current issues affecting travelers’ health. In light of these changes, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continuously check the latest travel advisories when arranging international travel and prior to departure. University-sponsored travel to Level 3 or 4 countries for faculty, staff and students remains suspended. University-sponsored travel to Level 1 or 2 countries requires approval from leadership.

How to report your vaccine to VCU

If you received your COVID-19 vaccination and would like to report it to VCU, you can do so through VCU Student Health Services. Vaccination and reporting your vaccination to VCU are voluntary and not a condition of enrollment or employment.

In addition to guidance from public health experts, VCU relies on this timely information to make decisions that impact university operations and plan future vaccination events. Vaccinated VCU community members may also be exempt from surveillance testing and extended quarantine. For information about how to submit immunization records to VCU Student Health Services, visit

If you are in the process of being vaccinated (if you have an appointment or are awaiting a second dose) and wish to report your vaccination at a later date, a link to this reporting form will remain available through your daily health check or myVCU portal.
