VCU Together Update for faculty and staff - Oct. 23

At-will testing now available, spring schedule info and more

Our priorities are the health, safety and wellness — both physical and emotional — of every member of the VCU community. VCU continues to monitor, assess and address situations as they arise. This weekly update will be a resource to help keep you informed as details become available. All updates are available at together.vcu.edu. Receive notifications by downloading VCU Mobile from your iOS or Android app store.

At-will testing now available

A limited number of “at-will” COVID-19 testing appointments are now available each week for VCU community members. At-will testing is voluntary and will be offered at no cost to employees. Any asymptomatic employee can participate in at-will testing, except for those who already have a scheduled COVID-19 test as part of the asymptomatic prevalence testing process.

At-will testing does not require a referral from Employee Health.

At-will tests are COVID-19 PCR oropharyngeal (throat) swab tests, the same used for on-campus asymptomatic prevalence testing. Click here for more information about how to make an appointment and testing locations.

Note: If you have scheduled an appointment for at-will testing but are now experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, or you have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, cancel your appointment and call Employee Health (1-804-MYCOVID or 1-804-692-6843) to discuss your testing options. You may cancel your appointment at any point before the day of your booking by clicking on the cancel/reschedule button in the appointment confirmation email.

Midterm grades reminder

Undergraduate faculty are urged to provide midterm grades for all of your students by the Oct. 23 deadline. We have almost reached our goal of 100 percent submission — in spring 2020, more than 70 percent of undergraduate students received midterm grades, which helped inform their ability to successfully complete the semester.

Intersession, new J-Term and spring 2021 courses

The Spring 2021 Schedule of Classes is now available to students and is searchable by course modality for more than 8,000 course sections. The schedule also includes Intersession and new J-Term courses that are offered during the winter break.

Students can register for spring semester, winter intersession and J-Term courses as early as Oct. 27. As a reminder, the additional online course fee that is normally assessed to online courses is waived for the spring 2021 semester.
